Leadership Positions

Student Executive Council Vice President (2023 - Present) and Treasurer (2021 - 2023)

The Executive Council is the primary link between the administration and the students of HSW. Student elections, Homecoming festivities, Talent Show, annual blood drives, and annual Giving Tree's are just a few of the many activities that this Council participates in. As the vice president, I organize these events and help the president organize meetings.

President and Founder of Chinese Honor Society (2022 - Present)

The Chinese Honor Society's goal is to foster Chinese learning students' interest in and understanding of Chinese culture through exposure to Chinese cooking, literacy, music, exploration of Chinese community, and so on. Students will also contribute back to the community through volunteer means and enhance the Chinese program. As the president of this honor society, I lead club meetings and ensure all members complete their required service hours. I also find opportunities for members to get involved in the Asian community around us and also set up a booth at the annual HHH Unity Fair. Additionally, as the founding member of this honor society I advocated for this honor society to be established at High School West.

Treasurer of Math National Honor Society (2023 - Present) and Member (2022 - Present)

This club aims to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability in mathematics. As the treasurer, I lead club meetings and ensure all members complete their required amount of service hours. Furthermore, I tutor students in need of math help.

Treasurer of Coffee and Conversation (2023 - Present) and Member (2022 - Present)

Coffee and Conversation is a club for students who want to meet in an informal environment to talk about current events and social issues that concern them. As the treaurer, I initiate conversations during the meetings.

Secretary of Racial Equity Alliance (2023 - Present) and Member (2020 - Present)

This club aims to foster fair treatment of people of all races, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes for all. We are dedicated to creating a safe space for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and unify different communities. Through candid conversation, we strive to develop solutions to current social issues and initiate change in our school community. BIPOC and their allies are invited to attend! We also attend conferences like "Stage the Change" to learn more about becomming proactive members in our communities. As the Secretary of Racial Equity Alliance, I facilitate conversations.

Student Government Treasurer (2017 - 2021)

The purpose of this student government is to promote school spirit and pride for the Class of 2024 by planning and encouraging students to participate in various school events. As the treasurer, I was responsible for tracking class funds, organizing all class events, and encouraging students to participate in school events, including homecoming and pep rallies.

Athletics

Girls Field Hockey (2018 - Present)

I played JV grades 9-10 and varsity 11-12 during the fall season. As a starting forward, I helped the team win games and score goals.

Girls Lacrosse (2018 - Present)

I played JV grades 9-10 and varsity 11-12 during the spring season. As a starting attack, I helped the team win games and score goals.

Clubs/Activities

Legislative Committee (2021 - Present)

During meetings, I introduce myself to many legislators on the local and state levels. I asked questions in order to learn more about their role in government and why they chose to go into politics. I also attend Meet the Candidate Nights. Annually, the committee visits Albany to lobby for our school's needs.

Pep Band (2020 - Present)

The HSW Pep Band provides support and entertainment at football games and community activities. Pep Band. I am a percussionist, playing instruments like the cowbell and tambourine.

Al Kalfus Math Fair (2019 - Present)

I write a paper that discusses how mathematics can be applied to a certain activity or game that you wouldn't necessarily think is related to math. I submit my paper and present it to receive a medal.

New York State School Music Association (2017 - Present)

I prepare and preform a high-level oboe piece to receive a grade and a medal.

Honor Societies: Chinese, Math, National, Science,Tri-M Music

Maintain a high GPA in the respective classes and perform community service hours that are relative to each topic.

National: I provide peer tutoring for topics like algebra, chemistry, biology, and physics; and attend community fundraising events like the annual Alzheimer’s Walk.

Science: I promote awareness for rare diseases and research the latest advancements in biotechnology.

Tri-M: I play my oboe for elementary-aged children at the library and volunteer at Coffee Houses.

Summer Activities

The Code Source Software Development Firm (2023 - Present)

Gained a comprehensive overview of Web and Game development, learned the essentials of Web Programming using HTML / CSS, and 3D Game Development using C# / Unity.

Racecar Research at the Cooper Union (2022)

During the summer of 2022, I spent six weeks learning about what makes Cooper Union Formula SAE operate. Specifically, my team and I designed and built a drag reduction system for the airfoils of the car. I assisted in coding for the stepper motor used to make the airfoil turn.
